Property
Insuring your buildings and business contents is just a small part of property insurance. Don’t forget some other important coverages:
• Loss of business income and extra expense
• Property of others in your care
• Property in transit
• Property that might spoil
• Value of betterments or improvements to a rented building
• Special computer coverage on hardware, software and lost data
General Liability
This important coverage protects and defends business owners against claims of bodily injury or property damage triggered by their
negligence. This can include products they make and premises they own and/or operate. Umbrella/Excess liability limits are highly
recommended in today’s litigious society.
Business Auto
Vehicles titled in a business name and/or used in a business capacity
usually require a commercial auto policy. Don’t try to insure your
business vehicle on a family or personal auto policy. If an accident occurs, coverage may be denied if the vehicle is used for business.
Workers Compensation
Virginia law requires businesses with three or more
employees, including owners, to carry workers compensation coverage on
the employees. Employers’ liability exposure is reduced when Workers
Compensation is provided. This coverage pays medical expenses and
partial wage continuation when an employee is injured on the job.
Inland Marine Coverage
Business contents, equipment and tools that move from
location to location need this coverage. Remember that most contents
coverage is location-specific, so coverage for anything that goes off
premises should be discussed with your agent.
Crime/Money Coverage
Theft of money by holdup, burglary, employee dishonesty, or
embezzlement are concerns of business owners. Insurance can protect
against such losses. Don’t forget the legal requirement to carry an ERISA
Bond on your pension plan. Call to learn more about this important
coverage.
Professional Liability
Doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers, accountants, veterinarians, barbers,
beauticians, consultants, and many other professionals need this
special coverage. Call us to learn more about this important
insurance coverage.
Directors and Officers Liability
Businesses and organizations that have directors and
officers sometimes put those individuals at risk personally for liability
suits. Directors and officers can be named individually in lawsuits. This
special type of policy can defend and pay claims involving investment of
funds, improper decision making or administrative actions.
Employment Practices Liability
Charges of sexual harassment, discrimination or wrongful termination of employees are a growing concern of business owners today.
Insurance coverage is available to defend and pay judgements on these charges. This coverage usually requires a separate policy. Even if the employer is
not guilty of the charges, defense costs average more than $40,000 to defend the case.
Bonds
Contractors often need bid and performance bonds in order to compete for certain jobs. Estate executors, guardians, and those responsible for the care
and assets of others are required by the courts to obtain surety bonds. We have Powers of Attorney on file with the local Circuit Courts and handle bonding needs of many types.
Special Needs
As an independent agency, we have many markets for difficult and hard-to-place insurance needs. We work with the top insurance brokers in the East to find
coverage for special risks.
